Natural Egg Dye

Natural Egg Dye

Easter is right around the corner and a tradition that many of us enjoy is coloring eggs. So here is a natural egg dying recipe that was shared with me.

Coloring foods:

Pink: Cranberries, Rasperries, radishes
Purple/red: Blackberries, beets
Blue: Blueberries, red cabbage
Yellow: tumeric, cumin, celery seed, onion skins, carrots
Orange/brown: cayenne, paprika, chili powder
Pale green: parsley or spinach leaves
Light brown: Walnuts, strong coffee or tea

For natural egg dye:

1-3 tablespoons of herb or up to 4 cups of chopped fruit or vegetable, the more you add the  deeper the color will be
4 cups of water
2 Tablespoons of vinegar (for every 4 cups of water)

mix your coloring food, the water, and vinegar together and bring to a boil. Add eggs and let simmer 15-20 minutes. This method colors and cooks the eggs at the same time. When done remove eggs with a spoon. pat dry with paper towels and let dry on wire rack. If you want more color you can place the eggs back in the dye water and refrigerate them in dye overnight. (Adjust recipe for number of eggs you are dying)

Enjoy spending time with your family!
