Chiropractic FAQ:
What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a form a conservative health care that utilizes the body’s natural means of healing aided by adjustments, manipulations, or manual therapy. Taking into consideration all systems of the body, chiropractors try to find the cause of diseases and symptoms in order to find the proper treatment protocol or professional to refer. Contrary to popular belief chiropractic care can be used to treat many ailments not limited to just “back pain”. There have been studies that seek the effectiveness of chiropractic care in cases of high blood pressure, headaches, ear infections, colic, whiplash injuries, and sprain/strains that leave chiropractic in a positive light compared to conventional treatment protocols. Although these studies have been published, chiropractic is still considered “alternative”, thus being chosen after mainstream medical treatments.
Chiropractors tend to be deemed the Kings of the Chronics since most patients that see them have already tried a variety of treatments. Using the classic stance of “First do no harm,” written by Hippocrates (The father of Modern Medicine), chiropractic physicians will search other means of health care through diet, detoxification, and implementation of exercise to improve patient’s overall health. Ironically it was Hippocrates who said, “Look well to the spine for the cause of disease,” which implies that most ailments can be treated through the nervous system. If chiropractors were considered first rather than last for everyday treatment of common ailments who knows how much time and money might be saved.
Chiropractic care is also considerably cheaper than conventional medicine making it more affordable to wider range of people. Also, it is safe for all ages through different techniques specialized for specific populations.
Is it safe?
This type of treatment is extremely safe. To understand the extent of its safeness we need to look at the true “bean counters” behind it all. Malpractice insurance companies require a premium every year to protect provider when suits are filed regarding mistreatment, negligence, or malpractice. If you were to compare a chiropractor’s premium to that of other health professionals you will see it is substantially less thus meaning less claims are made.
Is it addicting?
Chiropractic is as addicting as eating right, exercising regularly, or brushing your teeth daily. Patients typically feel better overall while getting “checked” on a periodic basis. After the initial phase of treatment which is usually designed to rigorously rid the patient of their symptoms as well as jump start their body to path of overall wellness, patients are urged to continue a maintainence plan to prevent any further injuries or disease processes.
Why so many visits?
Most people that seek the assistance of a chiropractor have been through numerous traumas, been exposed to an onslaught of toxins, and continue to abuse their bodies through repetitive stress. Since their body has sustained such treatment for an extended period of time multiple treatments are needed to restore proper function and health. Quite the opposite of most medical treatments chiropractic attempts to aid the body in healing itself. One visit might provide relief from symptoms temporarily but often doesn’t aid the body enough to fix itself.
